First Day Of College

What a *wonderful* first day in college, yet I have no idea where to begin in describing the experience. I got to school around 7:30 AM, purchased one final textbook, and promptly got to class.

To my surprise, the door was locked and no one was standing outside, even at 8:00 AM (when the class was supposed to start to my knowledge). Naturally, I was extremely worried. The last thing I want on my first day of school is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and soon enough, my worst fear was realized. I went to the registrar’s office to confirm my schedule, and she claimed that they had “made a mistake” in inputting my desired course time in the computer, so when they printed out the schedule in May, they had my course for the first summer session when in reality it was in the second. Yeeeahhh… that was purrrrty BAD! Fortunately, the counselors were able to quickly correct the mishap, and I finally had the schedule I originally wanted. Okay, my first professor… I think I’m the ONLY person who liked him. Imagine that guy from Saturday Night Live or MAD TV (I can’t remember which) who acts like George W. Bush… and that’s my professor, Dr. Randy Hatchett. What a guy! His humor and whit is as shallow as, heck, I don’t even know. Yet… I mean, he has an uncanny resemblance to my presidential hero. His gestures, comments, opinions, CONSERVATIVE nature, and physical appearance all seem to model Bush’s, and therefore, he’s earned my respect and attention. Okay, and what the heck. HBU’s girl to guy student ratio is like 50 to 1. My first class had 3 guys (counting me) and 15 girls and my second had 1 guy (me) and 9 girls. Needless to say, it was awkward compared to high school classes which seem to be relatively balanced gender-wise. Speaking of the second class… gosh, after the first class ended, we had a fifteen minute break before the second began. After waiting for the professor for 15 minutes after the class was supposed to begin, we wrote our names on a piece of paper and a fellow classmate took it down to the registrar’s office to let them know that all the students were present, but the professor wasn’t. What a great first impression for a teacher to make! Anyways, HBU’s policy says that it’s “legal” for the students to leave the class if the professor doesn’t arrive within fifteen minutes of the class’ commencement. Regardless, a few brave souls endured the elements and stayed a whole hour just to make sure that the guy was definitely not going to show up. Ironically, I got to leave my second class early when my first class started late. I could definitely get used to this. ^^

Happy Homeworking!
