Thanks for the photos--I worked at Shriner's for 5 years while my husband went through and went on from med school, and this is the first site I have found with anything close to there. I know UTMB has ended up with first floor damage to anything underwater, but otherwise made it through, but I don't think Shriner's was well-planned for a hurricane---I mean, made of largely glass? If you know anything about Shriner's, would you mind sending me an email?

It's good to know that TKY and most of UTMB was okay. Seeing more pictures on the news today really made me realize how lucky any part of Galveston was to escape with relatively little damage. Enjoy the next three weeks off!

Update: Classes are canceled and will resume Oct 6th on the island. The fence on the frat house was blown down and a large tree just outside fell down and missed the house but hit a fellow TKY's Subaru. Apparently the inside of the house is dirty and nasty due to lack of ventilation but otherwise dry. I'm very grateful. Much of student housing north of market st got flooded unfortunately, but you can bet that med students will be on the front lines of the reconstruction effort.
