Fake Sports

Whether it’s basketball, football, baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis, swimming, running, golf, billiards, foosball, table tennis, volleyball, softball…. you get my point… there are LOTS of sports. With such a vast choice, we have numerous ways to keep ourselves entertained by either engaging in the sport, going out to see it played by professionals, or simply watching it on television. As of late, I’ve started to question how what constitutes a “sport”, and while many activities can be deemed as such, others are…well…ridiculously lame.

Take golf. You hit a ball, and then you chase it. Then you hit it again, and you chase it. And once you manage to get it into a tiny hole… you start all over again at hole #2. Apparently, it’s also possible to get “injured” playing golf. ;-)

My all time favorite – professional cup stacking! Seriously, it’s not like we have a shortage of sports, so why do people still humiliate themselves? I hope I’m not the only one who laughs hysterically when watching this:

I wonder if being the “World Cup Stacking Champion” would warrant admiration or ridicule. :-D

I ask my readership – what other sports do you think are “unsportly?”

Oh man…. I agree.  My elementary school gym teacher was CRAZY about cup stacking.  We even had to do it as an event in Field Day.  He also loved jump roping and had an after-school team that he trained.  They eventually went on to compete in the Jump Roping Olympics.  Their team was called “The Jumping Eagles”.  They got medals and everything.

    Wow….

I remember having it in field day too! Along with the bean bag toss, sack race… wow, field day was a gimmick! Now that I think about it, we really didn’t participate in any “sport” events. :-D

Man, that’s a good point.  I sure do love the water balloon toss though… and have strong opinions that it should become an Olympic sport. :o )

Me neither! But you know what’s worse than golf? Women’s golf. ;-) Totally set myself up for a bashing by saying that, but it’s true!

It started as the only “sport” old people could play. That’s why young people like Tiger Woods succeeded, taking advantage of the older folk! And Women’s golf is just as bad or worse…you cannot compare golf with something like Maria Sharapova’s tennis. Athletes are not found in golf, just wealthy people with nothing better to do.
