Will North Korea Ever Cooperate?

For the first time, the Communist nation of North Korea has openly admitted its active uranium enrichment program and intent to weaponize the remaining reserves to use against any nation that gets in its way. Coupled with the controversial results of the Iranian election, this past week has been just great for the world.
Some argue that its none of our business to mess with North Korea. We have no right to tell them how to run their government, what they can and cannot manufacture, how they should handle dealings with other nations, etc. However, when they openly come out and state their intention to weaponize, it’s a bit disconcerting for those who are trying to ease the shaky delegations with the Communist nation. In the interest of national security, we have to take them seriously and finally realize that traditional diplomacy just won’t work anymore.
So how should we deal with this looming threat? Blow them off the map? Well, that’ll result in millions of innocent civilians being harmed. Keep trying to baby them into cooperating with us? Yeah, that’s obviously worked.
Make fun of Kim Jong Il’s physique? Won’t be very productive.
We need to find some middle ground where we can ensure the safety of our people as well as the North Koreans. Any suggestions?
