I had the opportunity to see a surgery very similar to the one below yesterday morning/afternoon. What perfect timing too! It happened right when we started studying scotomas this block. A craniopharyngioma is essentially a tumor of the pituitary stalk which presses down on the optic chiasm (from above) creating a very characteristic scotoma (in this case, the loss of vision is in the inferior, temporal regions of both visual fields.

I’m looking forward to assessing improvements in the patient’s visual field post-op this coming Monday.
