As early as your second year at Baylor Med, it’s possible to begin interviewing applicants to the medical program. How cool is that!? A lot of other schools reserve this privilege only for fourth year students. Guess it’s just a testament to the influence students have in BCM’s affairs.
I had the opportunity to see a surgery very similar to the one below yesterday morning/afternoon. What perfect timing too! It happened right when we started studying scotomas this block. A craniopharyngioma is essentially a tumor of the pituitary stalk which presses down on the optic chiasm (from above) creating a very characteristic scotoma (in […]
Earlier this afternoon, I purchased a Welch Allyn 3.5v MacroView Diagnostic Set (97201-MC) consisting of an otoscope and ophthalmoscope. Because of the steep price, I settled for something mid-tier which will hopefully last for years to come. According to the recently updated US News and World Report medical school rankings, there’s a new #1 medical school in Texas – UT Southwestern in Dallas. I was expecting Baylor Med’s rank to fall in 2010 but never anticipated it to regress to this degree.
This past Wednesday, I had the privilege of going to Ben Taub with several classmates as part of our mandatory “clinical ethics rounds.” Though I can’t discuss the patient and/or symptoms (HIPAA), it’s fair to say that what I saw spurred something inside of me.
During Baylor Med’s interview season, many interviewees asked me when the US News and World Report rankings for medical schools (and other graduate schools) come out, and I was spot on with my guess – the middle of April.
