R.K. Creations LLC

Over a decade ago, my family decided to pursue small business. This idea was not only for an additional source of income but for the purpose of learning all the nuances about running a professional business – staffing, taxes, marketing, etc. After establishing Kumar Creations Inc., we investigated many franchise possibilities ranging from Subway and Taco Bell to even donut shops; however, with the vast usage of the Internet, my family felt that a business dependent on “products” would ultimately crumble in light of advancing technology. On the other hand, “service”-related businesses will continue to be in demand, and we chose to pursue Sport Clips. (Trust me, you can’t get a haircut over the Internet).

After opening our first store in Meyerland Plaza, the learning process began, mostly for my mom. Working 18 hour days, she would work twelve hour night shifts in the NICU as a registered nurse, and then open the store to make sure that her “owner-presence” would be known to our clients. This strain eventually caught up with her, and she entrusted managers to perform the same duties. Then, we experienced our greatest loss. Cheated out of our lease renewal, we were forced to close the store without any opportunity to relocate. Essentially, we lost all the money we put in.

To make a long story short, we purchased existing Sport Clips stores in Kuykendahl, Willowbrook, and Champion Forest. Then, based on sales, we decided to relocate the Kuykendahl store to Tomball. Currently, Kumar Creations Inc. DBA (doing business as) Sport Clips has three stores which each have structured managerial staffs and continue to provide a stable source of income.

As of January 1, 2009, Kumar Creations Inc. was replaced by R.K. Creations LLC. In the limited liability company, my brother and I will preside as the managers, and our parents will be members.
