If you briefly skim through sections the “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009“, you’ll find that the primary focus of the bill is to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Whether or not these emissions contribute to global warming is up for debate; however, you can’t argue that they’re doing harm. Read more
Does anyone else think that the recent, post-”election” events regarding Iran are shaping up to become a much larger conflict? As Americans, many of us are spoiled with our freedom of speech, yet Ahmadinejad’s (the incumbent) regime is trying desperately to keep this situation from spiraling out of control by limiting the outflow of information to the rest of the world. I guess that gives the opposition even more of a reason to think the election was rigged. Read more
Has anyone else seen this week’s headlines in Germany? People are pouring in money to “straighten” gay penguins.
This brings to mind a world of questions:
- How do you know if a penguin is gay?
- Why do you care if a penguin is gay?
- Aren’t there better things to report on the news?
- Will gay penguins have rights before gay humans?
With my conservative background, I’m against same gender marriage, but that’s another topic. I just find it funny how all the Gay/Lesbian foundations/groups/associations/whatever are no longer rallying with each other, but defending the “rights” of the penguins!
Let’s consider our global situation. Many factions across the globe hate America, what it stands for, and what it’s currently doing in terms of foreign affairs. When these same factions are being given the privileges and “rights” of Americans, well, something just seems amiss to me.
Why are we enforcing our legal process on these terrorists who openly express their desire to destroy America? My view is simple – treat them like terrorists. Politics is ridden with countries trying to make themselves look good in the grand scheme of things, but every now and again, I feel that the primordial “eye for an eye” sentiment should be applied. I know that it’s not advantageous in the long run, but come on. It’s not like we’re trying to make friends with them or soften up how we handle their threats. We should be showing the world what happens to people who threaten the peace and security of another nation.
This latest stunt, among other things, has Republicans and terrorism analysts worried.
There was a lot covered in Obama’s address to Congress, but the part which struck me most dealt with his tax policies. He promised to not only maintain the taxes of people earning less than $250,000/year, but offer them tax breaks. Well, how about those earning more than that threshold? It seems a little weird that he spent so much of his speech advising people how to progress up the social ladder (better education system, more job opportunities, rewarding innovation, etc.), but he wants to penalize the people who were already committed to those virtues.
