I really have no idea why I’m writing about posers on Christmas Day, but there’s nothing else to do at this hour. I’m trying to get people’s input on whether or not the phrase “posers do it better” has any merit. For such an awkward phrase, there’s certainly a lot of thought that goes into supporting it.
What a horrible Christmas for us in Houston! My mom and I were at one of the family businesses earlier today when it was raining, and I just stared outside the window recollecting the Christmas Eve a few years ago where we had snow! Mind you, I enjoyed the snow we received on December 10th (among other things), but it’s just not the same without a “white Christmas.” Bleh, guess we’ll have to make the most of it.
“Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but jealousy is like a cancer” (Proverbs 14:30). Think about that. We’re all familiar with the emotional and medical pain associated with cancer. Now try equating that to something ALL of us are guilty of – the evil known as jealousy. Jealousy is marked by an uncharacteristic envy of another’s possessions, lifestyle, etc. While we like to consider ourselves independent people capable of making it on our own steam, we hold bitter sentiments towards those who, for better or worse, have something we desire.
It’s a phrase which we’ve all heard our friends say and may have said ourselves. The moment something goes awry, the immediate follow up is something along the lines of: “Ugh, I hate my life! Life sucks!” Even after I’ve finished my undergraduate studies, I still hear college students stating the aforementioned as if it’s some routine expression inherent to civil conversation. Well come hither, oh-life-hating-individual… I’ve got some words for you.
Every week, I chauffeur my mother to our family businesses to pick up deposits, reports, and attend to some regular maintenance. The round trip from home to all our stores and back is roughly 100 miles. This gives me plenty of time to observe the driving tendencies of Houstonians, many of which have inspired me to write this post.
