This past Friday, I had a brief chat with a friend who’ll be starting dental school in Houston and just found a place to live near the Texas medical center. During the last year of undergrad, he moved to a new apartment and found it incredibly difficult to study due to the new venue. Read more
Last week marked the one year anniversary of my HBU Notes Repository, and I must say that I’m glad so many people have found it useful! Overall, there were over four thousand downloads/views by students, professors, and curious Internet-goers.
The most popular files were my physics solutions, biochemistry notes, and organic chemistry notes. I’d also like to take this chance to thank Jonathan for his valuable contributions to the repository. Hopefully our notes will continue to facilitate the studies of aspiring HBU students out there.
This is probably the most frustrating task a future medical student must complete before beginning school – finding a suitable place to call “home” for the next four years. The current economic situation has made this a “buyer’s market” as of late, but the prices are still considerable. Regardless of where I go, I’ll be paying around $1,000 a month for lodging+utilities for a one bed/one bath… not too bad for the Texas medical center.
With just under a month left till my first medical school interview, I’m definitely looking forward to the experience. Interviewing has always been a strength of mine. From professionally connecting with the interviewer to transitioning between topics, the overall atmosphere really is conducive towards my speaking style; however, there’s the classic question which seems to always be asked (in one way or another) that I have to prepare myself for: “So Rishi, why do you want to be a doctor?”
From freshman year, I’ve constantly heard the “early applicants get the early seats” mantra, and vowed that when my time came, I would finish my applications to TMDSAS and AMCAS as early as humanly possible. TMDSAS opened on May 1st; however, my MCAT scores were posted online on May 19th. This is where my laziness began.
