Here’s a tutorial I’ve written to help the web-optimization junkies out there get eAccelerator, FastCGI, and zlib compression working on their BlueHost accounts.

Personalize Your Comments With Gravatars

 Published: November 26, 2008 at 5:01 pm in Sci/Tech

Gravatars, or globally recognized avatars, serve as a method to personalize your comments on numerous sites throughout the Internet (including this one). If you browse through some of my previous posts which have comments, you’ll see my own gravatar listed next to the text. The process of setting up a gravatar takes less than five minutes, so if you’re a frequent commentator, I recommend you do this! It’ll give a “face” to your comment, so others can identify you by more than just your name. :-)

New Domain Name – rk.md

 Published: November 24, 2008 at 7:57 pm in Sci/Tech

Most of you are familiar with domain name extensions like .com, .net, and .gov. In addition to these are extensions which are specific to countries (.us – USA, .uk – Great Britain, .ca – Canada, .cn – China, and so on). Knowing this, I decided to exercise the ridiculous nerdy yet creative side of my mind.

RK-home’s New Layout

Published: November 10, 2008 at 10:49 pm in Random

I’ve decided to depart with my old layout, a theme based on the original Hemingway design, since virtually no development is going into it anymore. Instead, I’ve jumped on the mainstream bandwagon and started recoding the K2 framework to suit my needs. This also works out great since the new version of WordPress (2.7) should be released very, very soon.

Disband Your Usage Of Internet Explorer (Please)

Published: October 14, 2008 at 11:13 pm in How To's/Reviews

I’m not begging, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop using Internet Explorer as your primary web browser (hmmm, okay, that was begging). I’m just worried there are casual computer users out there who don’t realize that they are voluntarily subjecting themselves to such obsolete software. Even the upcoming release is a horrible browser compared to the current open source competition. If you’re not sure what I’m referring to, please read on.

Cable Broadband Is Not Enough

 Published: August 18, 2008 at 9:52 pm in Sci/Tech

I’m addicted to the Internet. Aside from the conventional tasks associated with the Internet, I need it for hosting a variety of servers, remotely accessing all my files, music stores, and communicating with the outside world. Just like a spouse, it’s the first thing I wake up to and the last thing I bid farewell to before sleeping; however, unlike a true spouse, I won’t get in trouble for calling this wife “slow.”

Google CDN

You love Google. I love Google. We all love Google. Even you, Mr. Executive of Yahoo, have secretly Googled something in your free time. It’s a company rooted in innovation and open source projects. Not to mention, their robust network blankets the world with ridiculously fast search results. I decided to use their servers as a content distribution network to power this site across the Internet.

New Domain

 Published: August 19, 2006 at 8:05 pm in Sci/Tech

Well, it’s been a month since I’ve registered the AED site, and so far, the service Dot5Hosting has provided has exceeded my expectations in terms of functionality, reliability, and customer support; therefore, I decided to transfer my personal webpage to a new domain hosted by this same company for the aforementioned reasons. Also, I really plan to be more diligent with my blogging… (we’ll see how long that lasts). =).

So it’s one day closer to the MCAT. Today was the last official “written” MCAT which I happily passed up due to my lack of preparation. April 7th of 2007 is when I’ll demonstrate my mad science, verbal, and logical skills on the computerized version on that wonderful test. Till then, more independent studying and enrollment in a preparatory class by the end of this year are absolute priorities.

Summer-school concluded on Thursday, and I must say that I’m extremely relieved. Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II proved to be far more interesting than what I was initially anticipating; fortunately, I did well in both classes and got my A’s. As for English II, I’m pretty sure I got my A, but I won’t know until the transcripts get updated. What an incredibly strange class! I mean, the professor was awesome, and I finally had a chance to read some very well-known plays such as “The Glass Menagerie”, “A Doll’s House”, and “Hamlet”; however, compared to the organic classes, English II took a *lot* more time than I expected. Oh well, now it’s over. =).

Okay, I think I’ll go and fulfill my stereotypical “geeky” personality and attend to MCAT studies.

Happy Enjoying-Three-Weeks-Off!
