It’s a topic which has been in the news on and off over the last few years, but the feud between Israel and the surrounding Arab nations has lasted decades longer. Most Israelis and Palestinians favor a “two-state” policy whereby Palestine would become its own independent state alongside Israel. The drawback is that many Israelis residing in the West Bank and Gaza Strip refuse to give up their land to form such a state. The other option is a “single-state” policy where the entire region (Israel, West Bank, Gaza Strip, etc.) would become a bi-national state… supposedly with “equal rights.” If politics has taught us anything, it has to be the fallibility of “equal rights” clauses. No wonder the latter option is less popular.
