Well it looks like negotiations between Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine have finally reached a definitive consensus – the merger talks are over. Students at both institutions received an e-mail from the school presidents earlier today. Read more  

Rice/Baylor Merger – A Problem?

The Houston Chronicle released an interesting article about the Rice-Baylor merger a few days ago suggesting that the merger would create “one of the most unbalanced academic institutions in the nation.” The article itself was rather insightful; however, some comments left by readers put me over the edge. I just received an e-mail containing a letter from Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Eddins-Folensbee from Baylor College of Medicine regarding the merger with Rice University. Though it doesn’t shed much light on the details, it’s good to know that progress is being made.

Has anyone heard about the possible merger between BCM, one of the only stand-alone medical schools in the country, and Rice University? Imagine that harmony in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. Private university + private medical school = lots of reputability and funding. Both institutions would benefit tremendously! :-D
