Sleeping In The Rain

Hurricane Dolly is chewing up Brownsville, but there’s a gentle downpour outside of my room in Richmond, Texas. I know I’m not the only individual out there who enjoys taking a nap in the rain, but after analyzing why we have such a habit, I’ve come to no educated conclusion.

I suppose it’s just a symbolic event. The hustle-and-bustle of everyday life filled with conflict and stress being replaced by the tranquil ambience only nature can provide. The outdoors are cleansed of dirt as the temperature suddenly drops. Water, a symbol of life in itself, floods battered grounds bringing new life and renewing the old. How do we express our appreciation as humans? We too partake in an event that renews us… sleeping! Others like myself try to sleep, but the occasional bellowing of parents coupled with studying makes it painfully impossible. Time is rare these days, but once in a while, it’s nice to enjoy the simple things in life.

  1. I rather like spending my time outside in the rain letting it fall on my skin rather than being inside sleeping, but I also like to doze off to the soft ambiance of the rainfall. It almost slows things down and you can feel the earth breathing. It truly is a peaceful experience, at least enough to forget how annoying your parents are.
