Whether you have a Windows Mobile Smartphone, an iPhone, a Blackberry, or a Palm-based device, there’s a version of Epocrates RX available for your mobile phone.
The creators of Epocrates RX describe it as a “free comprehensive handheld drug guide”, so naturally, it’ll be of great use to those in the medical profession. The following features are included:
- Tables
- Convenient reference for normal values, dosages, and other tabular data.
- Categorized by specialty (anesthesiology, endocrinology, neurology, etc.)
- MultiCheck
- Allows one to determine any known drug-drug interactions
- MedMath
- Access some of the most routinely used medical equations (BMI, cardiac output, etc.)
- RX Database
- Access a vast database of drugs by their generic name or brand name
- Adult dosing, pediatric dosing, black box warnings, safety, pharmacology, adverse reactions, etc. are available for each drug.
The aforementioned features come bundled with Epocrates RX. To really take advantage of the software, you’ll have to pay for the higher end versions: Epocrates RX Pro ($60/yr) or Epocrates Essentials ($149/yr). These versions come bundled with information on symptoms, diagnostic lab tests and so on.
I’ve been using Epocrates RX on my Samsung Omnia i910 (Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro), for a few weeks now and have absolutely no complaints. Then again, I shouldn’t complain – it’s free. 😀
Give it a try for yourself and let me know what you think. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment too.
hi. i have a samsung omnia i900. tried downloading the free epocrates to my phone, however i failed. do you have any idea how?
Have you flashed to a custom ROM? Especially a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM? If so, Epocrates isn’t compatible with the firmware.
Hi, do you have to have the data plan to use this epocrates on samsung omnia or it just works by downloading on wi-fi?
I think it should work via wifi, but in order to occasionally sync with Epocrates and/or to access the latest medical headlines, you’ll need to have an active Internet connection (unless you manually sync in a wifi hotspot).
