Block 7b – Week 2

One week into block 7b and it’s already 1/3rd done. After a couple of back-to-back two month blocks (5 and 6), I’m enjoying this fast-paced curriculum even more. The MS1s have their first real exam tomorrow. They’ve all been studying really hard, so I’m sure they’ll do great! 🙂

Today was another day of skipping class. Seriously, if I had the option of doing medical school 100% through streaming video, I would do so in a heart beat. The only good reason to come to class is to play basketball, but aside from that, I’m exponentially more productive locked away in my room. Sometimes, social interactions can be overrated and, more often than not, make me long for days from my past which I can’t reclaim. Hmmm… enough said.

I stumbled across a quote while surfing the web earlier. It succinctly speaks my own mind regarding a physician’s role in a way that only Voltaire could pen.

“But nothing is more estimable than a physician who, having studied nature from his youth, knows the properties of the human body, the diseases which assail it, the remedies which will benefit it, exercises his art with caution, and pays equal attention to the rich and the poor.” – Voltaire

The last part is especially striking. Voltaire implies that healthcare is more of a “right” than a “privilege” reserved exclusively for the well-off. This is a common debate (especially at the pre-med level), yet in my mind, it was hardly any debate at all. I’ll probably write a post on my views in the coming weeks.

Both my NFL favorites, the Saints and Texans, have a 1-0 start to their respective seasons. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that means the Texans are undefeated. (Be gentle with your laughter.) 😀

Now I’m off to get started with another night of video gaming and deep contemplation.

Attending: “Alright everyone, go see patients.”
Team High Yield Members: “Dude, where’s the PowerPoint?!”
      Attending: 😯
