With only one rotation left in medical school (my internal medicine sub-internship in January 2013), I have the next few months to attend to my residency interviews and extracurriculars. That being said, I wanted to first knock Step 2 CK out at some point in late October. After perusing the Internet looking for good study suggestions, I’ve discovered a much more variable approach to preparing for Step 2 CK compared to Step 1 (aka, FIRST AID).Â
Here’s an excerpt from USMLEWorld’s website outlining the test format:
Step 2 CK has approximately 352 multiple-choice test items. It is divided into eight sixty minute blocks and administered in one nine hour testing session. For Step 2 CK, during the defined time to complete the items in each block, you may answer the items in any order, review your responses, and change answers. After you exit the block or when time expires, you can no longer review test items or change answers.
My study plan consists of using Kaplan Master the Boards USMLE Step 2 CK as my “textbook” and annotating it with information from the USMLE World Step 2 CK question bank, USMLE Step 2 Secrets, and parts of Kaplan Notes. Statistically, people tend to do better on Step 2 CK compared to Step 1, so that’s also reassuring. 🙂
Anyways, now that the Dean’s Letter is available to residency programs, I’m hoping this week brings more interview invitations. 😀
