I previously blogged about the “minimums” anesthesiology residents must meet, and thanks to my training at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), I easily achieved multiples of the requirements. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve so many incredible patients over the years!
Here’s an incomplete list of procedures I did during anesthesiology residency (in no particular order):
- Lines: peripheral IV, arterial line (radial, ulnar, brachial, axillary, dorsalis pedis), central line (internal jugular, subclavian, femoral), pulmonary artery catheterization
- Upper extremity nerve blocks: interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, wrist/digital blocks
- Lower extremity nerve blocks: femoral, adductor canal, infragluteal sciatic, popliteal, ankle blocks
- Abdominal blocks: TAP (subcostal, four quadrant), quadratus lumborum, rectus sheath
- Other blocks: PECS I/II, stellate ganglion
- Pain procedures: sacroiliac injection, epidural steroid injection, facet joint injections
- Neuraxial: epidural, spinal, combined spinal-epidural (CSE), caudal
- Direct laryngoscopy: Macintosh, Miller
- Indirect laryngoscopy: WuScope, McGrath, C-MAC, Glidescope, IntuBrite, Lightwand, Shikani optical stylet
- Fiberoptic: awake/asleep intubations via the oral and nasal routes
- Lung isolation: bronchial blocker, double lumen tube, Univent
- Laryngeal mask airways (LMAs): iGel, Fastrach intubating LMA, Supreme, classic
- Airway catheters: Aintree, Cook
- Cardiac/ICU: lumbar spinal drain, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), transthoracic echocardiography (TTE)
