13″ 2018 MacBook Pro – Rigel

I upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro (Fenix) to a 2018 MacBook Pro last month. The 13 inch, Coffee Lake based computer was a tremendous jump in performance compared to the 2017 model which I sold online for ~$1,000. I give you Rigel, my mobile computing platform.

Rigel – my 2018 MacBook Pro

Fenix had a Kaby Lake processor (dual core at 2.3 GHz) with 8 GB of 2133 MHz RAM and an Intel Iris Plus 640 integrated graphics processor. On Geekbench 4.2.0, it scored 4394 (single-core), 9390 (multi-core), 27495 (Metal), and 29049 (OpenCL).

Rigel sports a Coffee Lake processor (quad core at 2.3 GHz) with 8 GB of 2133 MHz RAM and an Intel Iris Plus 655 integrated graphics processor. On Geekbench 4.2.0, it scores 4565 (single-core), 16933 (multi-core), 34558 (Metal), and 34604 (OpenCL). Compared to Fenix, Rigel also comes with two more USB C ports (all at full speed), the touchbar interface, the third generation butterfly keyboard, BlueTooth 5.0, True Tone displays, and the Apple T2 chip.

Overall, I’m very happy with the power of this notebook! 🙂
