Starting My First Dedicated Month Of Thoracic Anesthesiology

As cardiothoracic anesthesia fellows, I’ll do two 1-month blocks of dedicated thoracic anesthesiology, and my first block begins tomorrow! These two months are often the hardest months of this fellowship since we’re on call 24/7 for lung transplants every single day except the second and fourth weekends.

The last several weeks of fellowship have been filled with echocardiography structural heart procedures, bypasses, valve replacements, aortic surgeries, mechanical circulatory support, and adult congenital heart cases. Now I’ll transition to video assisted thoracoscopic surgeries (VATS), esophagectomies, pleurectomies, lung transplants, lung isolation techniques, brochoscopies, placing thoracic epidurals and a myriad of other chest procedures. 🙂

Here I go! 😀
