Launch Of The Butterfly iQ+

As a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and intensivist, I utilize ultrasound in a myriad of ways. Whether I’m placing a peripheral nerve block or performing arterial cannulation in the operating room or guiding a thoracentesis procedure or eFAST exam in the ICU, having ultrasonography at my disposal allows me to better care for my critically ill patients.

This is why I’m incredibly excited to be working with Butterfly for the launch of their new iQ+ portable ultrasound probe. I initially purchased the iQ as a critical care fellow, and since then, have come to realize the boundless potential it has in improving bedside diagnostics, response to therapy, and as a teaching tool for my residents and fellows. I can’t wait to show you all how I use the iQ+ in the coming weeks!

  1. Hello Rishi, I am looking to buy a portable US as a 2nd year medical student. Do you think is worth investing on a butterfly IQ+ on the 2024 year.

    • Hey Luis! My opinion is that you have better things to spend the money on as an MS2. Get comfortable using the machines like Sonosite to gain proficiency in ultrasonography before spending thousands on a portable device. This is a purchase better suited for much later in your training or even as a junior attending.
