Goosebumps – The Litmus Test for Music

We’ve heard of people describing music as “deep” or “meaningful”, but how do those feelings actually manifest themselves in the process of listening? I think I’ve figured it out – goosebumps! I can’t be the only one out there who gets goosebumps while listening to some of those classics.

So what inspired me to write this post? As part of listening to Michael Jackson’s greatest hits in light of his recent passing, I came across the first song by MJ I ever heard – “Will You Be There?” For those who still don’t know which song I’m talking about… remember the Free Willy theme? Yeah, that one. 🙂

Anyways, I was watching the video on YouTube and was overcome with goosebumps listening to the lyrics. I promptly followed the video with a thought: “Man, there must be some connection between deep songs and goosebumps.” Hence this post.

  1. I had no idea what song you were talking about but the moment you said “Free Willy” and once I clicked on the Youtube link, I immediately remembered. Weird thing is gave me a few goosebumps too. I guess when a song is that good, it can give you a subcutaneous reaction.
