Day 2 – The Consultant

Day 2 of residency was way more stressful than the first. After morning report, rounds, and noon lecture, I was left alone to run the renal service with an awesome med student. Our attending was in-and-out of meetings but did a fantastic job being available to address any questions and discuss my plans for new consults. I seriously feel like I’ve learned more on two days of the renal service than any given month as a medical student.

Though my patients have been incredibly gracious during our encounters, I’m still on the steep part of the proverbial learning curve for interns. Here’s hoping for a more laid-back day tomorrow when the fellows and upper-level resident are back, but for now… it’s time to read more about renal pathophysiology! 😀
