Onto VA Cardiothoracic Anesthesia

As a PGY-4, I have two months on the cardiothoracic anesthesia service at Texas Heart Institute (THI) and just finished my first on a memorable note. I was on call yesterday and had the privilege of working alongside an incredible clinical fellow to do a heart transplant case. This is after doing a liver transplant the day before and several cases requiring cardiopulmonary bypass earlier this week. All in all, it was a great month at THI!

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be returning to the VA Hospital to begin one last month as a trainee. I look forward to serving our men and women in uniform as they undergo cardiothoracic surgery. It’ll be a perfect extension for the cardiac cases I was doing at THI, so I’ll continue building my knowledge of cardiac critical care over the next few weeks. 🙂
