Passed The ABA Anesthesiology Written Boards

To become a board certified anesthesiologist, we must pass our two-part written boards. I took the $775 “basic exam” between my PGY-2 and PGY-3 years on 6/12/2015 and the $775 “advanced exam” on 7/28/2017. Just got word this week that I passed the advanced exam too.

After passing the advanced exam, a candidate becomes eligible to register for the “applied exam” consisting of an OSCE and oral board examination. We register for this $2,100 behemoth on a first come, first served basis. Unfortunately the ABA’s server crashed multiple times during the daytime.

Fortunately, I was able to get through and registered for the first available group of dates: March 5-8, 2018. I’ll be flying to Raleigh, North Carolina to take the exam, and if I pass the applied exam, then I’ll officially obtain the first of my three board certifications. 🙂
