Notified Of Promotion To Associate Professor

Today, I was notified by my department leadership of my promotion to Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, effective September 1, 2026.

As an attending physician in academic medicine, progress is often measured in milestones, publications, promotions, and titles, but there’s a tremendous amount of work that goes into achieving those. For me as a cardiac anesthesiologist and CVICU intensivist, this translates to early mornings prepping for ICU rounds, late nights reading the latest evidence and preparing for lectures, and routine mentorship, teaching, writing, and moments of self doubt or “I shouldn’t have signed up for this.” This promotion is meaningful because of the people who helped me along the way.

I’m so very grateful to my colleagues, mentors, trainees, friends, and family who continue to support me as I try to promote better, safer, and more informed perioperative care every day. None of us accomplish anything meaningful alone.

The most fulfilling part of academic medicine is not only taking care of patients in the ICU, OR, and procedural areas (although that’s a privilege of a lifetime), but it’s also the opportunity to teach, mentor, build, create, and hopefully leave the field a little better for those who come after me.

I am humbled, grateful, and excited for what comes next! 😊
