My very last tuition note has been paid!! Over the last four years, I’ve spent less than $80,000 on medical-school-related expenses: tuition, insurance, fees, supplies, contract parking, gas, wear-and-tear on the car, etc. Though I’ve saved a substantial amount of money by living at home with my parents, the hour commute each way coupled with ridiculously high contract parking rates in the Texas Medical Center amounted to roughly $400 per month for gas, wear-and-tear, and parking. In retrospect, except for my surgery and neurosurgery rotations, this was manageable as I went to a predominantly commuter campus for undergrad too. 🙂
It’ll soon be time to reap the benefits of the extraordinarily… meager… resident salary. 😉
