Too Many Mobile Messaging Choices!

The number of mobile messaging client options is ridiculous! On any given day, I’ll send and receive messages on:

  • Google Hangouts
  • GroupMe
  • Facebook Messenger
  • Skype
  • WhatsApp
  • Google Voice

WhatsApp is honestly my favorite. It’s tied to my phone number, cross-platform compatible, reliable, and provides end-to-end encryption. The big drawback: no video conferencing (yet). This feature is offered by Hangouts, Skype, and Facebook Messenger, but those platforms lack the encryption¬†and require additional accounts.

Google is set to debut Allo and Duo, a pair of applications which might unify¬†some of the apps above (namely Hangouts, SMS/MMS, and Voice), but till then, I’m still trying to streamline this problem which has long plagued Android users. ?

How do you balance so many options in the mobile messaging market?
