As I look back on the last year, I’ve been humbled by the opportunities given to me by my colleagues, trainees, and, above all, my patients — the opportunity to learn and expand professionally as a physician, the opportunity to mentor and guide, and the opportunity to continue growing the field of perioperative cardiovascular medicine in both the OR and ICU settings.

When writing these yearly posts, I often reflect on prior renditions to relive memories from years past. Sadly, I missed writing posts for my 34th and 36th. To be truthful, I almost forgot to write this one as I’m trying to prepare for an ultrasound workshop I’ll be doing later today for the American Society of Enhanced Recovery (ASER). With each passing year and a growing plate of responsibilities, I’ve shifted so much of the time I once dedicated to blogging into creating educational content for my trainees and fulfilling commitments as an academician. Each day, I’m busy but genuinely happy. :-)
Over the next year, I’ll be applying for promotion to associate professor. Here’s hoping I succeed!
