My ICU colleagues and I walked into yesterday’s first-ever administered critical care ultrasound certification examination without much insight about the exam itself except for a very generic content outline. Here are my reflection/impressions of the test.
As part of my cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship, we are required to submit an abstract to present at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists annual meeting. This will be in May 2019 in Chicago!
Earlier this morning, I was notified that I passed my critical care board examination and am now officially board certified in critical care medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology! Two board certifications down… one more to go! :-)

As cardiothoracic anesthesia fellows, I’ll do two 1-month blocks of dedicated thoracic anesthesiology, and my first block begins tomorrow! These two months are often the hardest months of this fellowship since we’re on call 24/7 for lung transplants every single day except the second and fourth weekends.
