Visiting The Ether Dome
The Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital is a historical site in medicine for serving as the amphitheater for the first public demonstration of surgical anesthesia by William T.G. Morton on October 16, 1946. Here are some pictures from when I visited. 🙂
The Ether Dome is one of the most famous historical sites in medicine. It was the venue for the first successful public demonstration of inhalational anesthesia for surgery. I've visited this place a couple times and am always humbled by the pathway paved for modern anesthesiology by these brilliant pioneers. Join me tonight on IG Live at 8 PM EST to learn why I chose anesthesiology and my changing views about the career.
