This afternoon was Baylor Med’s seventh Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) induction ceremony for medical students. We also inducted residents/fellows for the first time (a pilot program at a handful of other med schools around the country)!
A week of Apex courses has flown by, and its been great catching up with classmates (many of whom I’ve not seen since the basic sciences). I’ve learned many high yield pearls to utilize as an intern but still anticipate a rough transition period before I get accustomed to being…
After being separated as a class for many months, we’re finally reuniting (yes, even the people who prefer to stream lectures from home) for the next two weeks of Apex. I’ll be kicking off the course with classes in electrolytes/fluids, the business of medicine, informed consent/implicit bias, and managing adults…
In roughly one month, I’ll figure out where I’ll be spending the next four years of my life as a resident physician. My rank order list was submitted several weeks ago, and things will be “finalized” on February 20th, but until match, I’m just enjoying the perks of being a…
Every fourth year medical student (MS4) at Baylor Med is required to take Apex, a pass/fail course which provides a “unique, practical and interactive focus on solidifying students’ medical school experiences while developing and fine tuning skills that will help them enter their internship with confidence.” In continuation with our…

Tomorrow is our team’s second major admission day; we’ll receive eight patients plus a possible ICU transfer. While having new patients on the service is great, these tend to be our longest days… and the Texans are playing their second playoff game tomorrow. Last week’s admission day was Saturday… when…
I almost forgot how rigorous hospital medicine can be, but being back on the wards has been a much-needed reminder why I went into this profession. It’s also fun watching the MS2s (who just started clinical rotations a week ago!) present patients on rounds; it feels like yesterday when I…
What a return to the clinical scene! Although my upper-level resident is switching, I’ve gotten to know the two MS2s and two interns I’ll be working with for the next four weeks. I couldn’t be happier with this group!
All fourth year medical students are required to complete a one month sub-internship (sub-I) in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, or family medicine. Compared to core rotation students who focus more on interviewing patients, doing physical exams, and synthesizing assessments/plans, sub-I students perform the aforementioned in addition to other aspects of…
